How to Create an Account

Already Existing Permit Holders

If you hold an existing permit(s), please have your email address(es) ready when creating an account.

If you have multiple permits under one email address, your permits will be automatically linked once your account has been created.

If you hold multiple permits under different email addresses, you can choose to create multiple accounts for each different email address or request to link all permits into one account.

If the vessel has been permitted before by a different owner, please make sure your information has been transferred over before creating an account.

Head over to the Create Your Account page to create your account.

What You will Need:

You will need the following information to create your account

  • Email address associated with your permit
  • First name
  • Last name
  • Phone Number

Non-existing Permit Holders

If you do not hold a permit issued through the HMS Permit Shop, but wish to do so, you can first Create Your Account with a valid email address. Once your account has been set up, navigate to the Permits tab and select the Buy a New Vessel Permit sub-tab. Follow the instructions on the Buy a New Vessel Permit page to proceed with purchasing a vessel permit.

What You will Need:

You will need the following information to create your account and apply for a permit Personal information:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Home (billing) address and zip code
  • Day time telephone number
  • Mobile phone number

Vessel information:

  • U.S. Coast Guard documentation number and/or state registration number for the vessel
  • Vessel name
  • Home port city and state
  • Principal port city and state
  • Length (in feet)
  • Year built
  • Crew size
  • Construction (e.g., wood)
  • Gross tonnage
  • Propulsion (e.g., gasoline)
  • Main engine horsepower
  • Hold capacity in pounds (if applicable)

How to Link Your Permits to One Account

If you have multiple permits that are associated with different email addresses you can request to link them to one account. If you have not already, first create an account for the permit with the email address you would like to manage your permits under.

Once the account has been created, while logged in, head over to the Contact Us menu and then click on the Link Permit sub-menu. On this page, you can submit requests to link your other permits that have different email addresses to your current account. Please keep in mind, when you link permits with different email addresses to one account, those emails will change to the same email address as the account's email.
